Travels
my name is
Shakura Castro
I wear many hats - wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, cousin, forensic scientist, and world traveler. Each title shapes who I am, but travel is where I truly come alive. My love for exploring the world began early, but I didn’t get the chance to travel internationally until my sophomore year at Spelman College. That life-changing opportunity took me to Lisbon, Portugal. My first passport stamp and the beginning of a deep love affair with experiencing new cultures, languages, and landscapes.
Now, as a mother, I’ve made it a priority to introduce my son to the world from a young age. Watching him collect passport stamps and embrace the beauty of new places has only deepened my passion for travel. To me, travel is more than just a getaway - it’s connection, growth, joy, and discovery. Through Shakura Travels, I’m here to help you design unforgettable journeys filled with meaning, excitement, and ease for you and your family.

In 2025, I was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Accessible ATL Award, presented by the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion during Disability Pride Month. This recognition celebrates my leadership in promoting accessibility and inclusion, and it reflects my commitment to making spaces, and experiences like travel more welcoming and equitable for all.
In October 2025, I was deeply honored to receive the Judge Arthur Kaplan Community Service Award at the Crime Is Toast Awards, presented by Matt Ryan and Katie Fitzpatrick. This recognition reflects my continued commitment to advancing autism awareness, training, and meaningful support within the police department, as well as my broader work across the City of Atlanta. Through advocacy, education, and collaborative initiatives, I strive to bridge gaps between law enforcement and the autism community promoting informed, compassionate, and inclusive practices. Being acknowledged for this work reinforces the importance of service-driven leadership and the impact of creating systems that truly support individuals, families, and communities.
